On The Cover: Faye Leerssen
SOME FACTS ABOUT FAYE
World Champion’s Story is Just Beginning

Faye Leerssen is 15 years old (going on 16). She’s a high school sophomore in Scottsdale, Arizona. She likes math. She’s on the track team. Pretty typical stuff. But in 2006, she made a name for herself by winning the Ladies division at the Mounted Shooters of America (MSA) World Championship. Faye credits her horse/best friend, a nine-year-old Paint called Chief, for the win. The two learned the sport together when they teamed up five years ago. They work out 45 minutes each day. Faye idolizes fellow world champion Kenda Lenseigne (“She’s my hero, she’s incredible!”). She loves competing and isn’t worried about burnout (“I always have fun, I’m never bored.”). And Faye is not resting on her laurels—she’s working hard on improved riding speed and shooting accuracy. That looks to be bad news for other riders for many years to come.
